"Dryophyllum is the most common plant fossil found in Hell Creek. It is a member of the walnut family, its form resembles the modern Hickory or Pecan trees (Carya), as does its foliage, with long serrated leaves. It is wind pollinated via long cylindrical flower clusters called catkins."

"Dryophyllum" subfalcatum is an eudicot tree, once believed to have belonged to the family Juglandaceae, the same family that includes walnut, pecan and hickory trees, but having been suggested as a member of the Sabiaceae family instead, which includes the modern meliosmas. This plant will be an important food source for herbivores, specially Anatosaurus, Triceratops and Denversaurus.
