Archosauromorphs are the group of diapsid reptiles that includes all creatures most closely related to archosaurs (crocodylomorphs, pterosaurs and dinosaurs) than to lepidosaurs (lizards and kin). Archosauromorphs have appeared since the Permian, and started becoming diverse in the Triassic period. Other than the archosaurs, that dominated in the later Jurassic, Cretaceous and Cenozoic, the choristoderans wandered in the background, until they became extinct in the Miocene, 20 million years ago. The placement of choristoderans has been disputed for very long, but many authors reconstruct it as a archosauromorph. Turtles, after many controversial analysis, seem to most likely fall within this group.
