Bony fish, from the ray-finned fish class Actinopterygii, are the most abundant of all vertebrates. They are called that way because their fins are supported by bony or horny spines, mainly webbed with skin, instead of fleshy lobes, such as in some tetrapods and relatives. The Actinopterygii consists of nearly 99% of all known species of extant fish, which are nearly 30 000 species. They are found in most aquatic habitats. They can range in size from the length of a ladybug to the length of a anaconda.
