Softshell turtles

The softshell turtles are all the representatives of the family Trionychidae. They include the largest extant freshwater turtles, although they are also adapted to brackish waters, as well. They are found in abundance in the Northern Hemisphere. Softshell turtles most notorious characteristic is their shell that, in most species, lacks scutes and is instead just skin. This allows them to have less unnecessary weight, that gives them more hydrodinamics, useful for their predatory behaviour.
