"The smaller Hell Creek turtles Gilmoremys lancensis and Helopanoplia distincta are also in this family (Trionychidae), but are more closely related to modern African and Asian softshells."
― Saurian: A Field Guide to Hell Creek
Helopanoplia was an extinct genus of softshell turtle from the Hell Creek Formation, Lance Formation and Ferris Formation. It was closely related to Gilmoremys, both of which seem to have belonged to the extinct subfamily Plastomeninae. By analysing the sediments the fossils of this turtle were found, it is assumed Helopanoplia favoured freshwater ponds and lakes on the swamps.
