Platanites marginata belongs to the plane-tree family Platanaceae. It seems to have been a quite common tree in Hell Creek, growing close to riverbeds and lakes. The saplings of these plants are eaten by herbivores, such as Anatosaurus, Triceratops and Denversaurus.
